Behind The First Gypsied Dress

Three years on, we have gained enough momentum to design and produce our first dress. It has not been without difficulty. The Gypsied Dress is seven months in the making. From design to final piece, it has taken seven long months to perfect — accurate tailoring, precise stitching and all.

With experience making Gypsied's accessories the last couple of years, I have come to appreciate the value of craft and making by hand. Everything tangible in this world started with a pair of hands shaping its form. This has resulted in an awareness of the detrimental effects of fast fashion. Pollution, child labour, unfair labour practices — fast fashion is an industry that needs to be relooked and revamped.

But that's for another post.

Today, I am elated to share that our dresses are made ethically in Bali, Indonesia. I certainly hope to share more with you in time to come.

So here it is, the first Gypsied Dress. She is an amalgamation of the modern bohemian: A colourful ikat print set on a cotton linen base, designed in a clean and silhouette. The subtle split neck is our favourite feature.

The dress launches on our online store to the mailing list on Saturday, 2 April 2016. Sign up for our mailing list.
